Past studies

Training for Laparoscopic Surgery

This study will take place in the Center for the Future of Surgery at UCSD. The volunteer will be asked to train on his or her own time using one of three possible training methods. A basic skill level assessment will be performed before and after the training period. The purpose of the study is to compare the use of the new interface with standard training methods in order to develop more engaging and cost-effective training solutions.

Tip-extending Robot for Medical Interventions

This study will take place in the Medical School at UCSD. The volunteer will be asked to perform a series of navigation tasks through an anatomical phantom model using both the tip- extending robot as well as a standard set of catheters. These tasks will be performed using X-ray for visualization of the tools inside the phantom model. The purpose of the study is to compare the use of the tip-extending robot and the standard instruments, in order to develop tools for safer, more efficient access and navigation to hard-to-reach places within the body.Â
